The subject of this article is the build of one of the F-4C’s flown by Colonel Robin Olds during Operation Bolo, specifically AF 64-0829 F-4C SCAT XXVII. I have spent almost 2 years researching this aircraft and have read numerous articles, books in addition to having looked at thousands of pictures to ensure every detail is exactly as the aircraft appeared during this time period in Vietnam.
Finally, I have had conversations with the Manuscript Curator of the National Museum of the United States Air Force regarding the restored AF 64-0829 in efforts to obtain additional reference materials. As a result, they were kind enough to provide photographs and the following history indicating, understandably, why the aircraft was not restored to its “in country” appearance as requested by Colonel Olds and his daughter Christina.
